As with any other wet area, bathtub showers need to be properly waterproof because the shower walls are constantly sprayed by large amounts of water. Even today, many contractors still use cement boards and paper color Sheetrock to protect against water damages. However, water imbibed cement, plaster or green paper are no match against a waterproofing membrane. Failure to properly waterproof a wet area will inevitably lead to mold and mildew problems behind the walls and the bathtub wood structure.
