These types of showers typically have a recessed basin covered by a wood mat. The duckboard is removable and the tiled shower floor could also be used without it. Generally, the mat is custom made from a water-resistant wood essence. The use of wood warms up the design by incorporating natural and exotic materials in a place typically associated to a cold look and feel. The surface preparation and waterproofing of these types of showers is very similar to barrier free showers, although, the wood mat could easily be integrated to any type of shower. The following two examples are barrier free showers with seamless transitions between the tiled floor and the shower wood mat.
